Kepler puts Twins ahead for good

An RBI single by Max Kepler in the top of the eighth inning put Minnesota on top Friday night en route to an 8-7 victory at Kansas City. Kepler ended the night 2-for-5 with a run scored plus the RBI. Miguel Sano and C.J. Cron both finished 1-for-5 with a solo home run. Jorge Polanco was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs. Ryne Harper picked up the win in relief as he gave up one earned run on two hits with one strikeout and no walks over one inning. Taylor Rogers threw the final two innings of spotless baseball with one strikeout to pick up the save. Jose Berrios will start today as he enters with an 8-3 record, 2.86 ERA and 1.06 WHIP with 94 strikeouts over 97 2/3 innings.

Cuthbert shines in loss

Kansas City lost by a count of 8-7 Friday night at home as it last a lead in the latter innings. Cheslor Cuthbert paced the Royals offensively as he finished 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, two runs and four RBIs. Jorge Soler went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and two runs. Martin Maldonado was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Jake Diekman suffered the loss in relief as he gave up three earned runs on three hits with a walk while not retiring a batter. Danny Duffy starts today as he comes in with a 3-3 record, 4.64 ERA and 1.40 WHIP with 46 strikeouts over 54 1/3 innings.

MLB Betting Trends

Minnesota

The Twins are 11-2 in their last 13 Saturday games. Minnesota is 5-0 in the last five Berrios road starts.

Kansas City

The Royals are 24-50 in their last 74 games overall. Minnesota is 6-2 in the last eight meetings.

Prediction:

The Royals almost made it two wins in a row in this series, but the Twins bats had something to say about that over the final three innings. With Berrios on the mound, I don't see KC getting it done today even with Hunter Dozier back in the lineup. Adalberto Mondesi was put on the injured list this week and things look pretty bleak for the Royals even if they have been playing decent baseball over the last week. Take the favorites in this spot.
