Tigers continue struggles

Detroit has lost five of its last six games following an 8-7 loss at Pittsburgh on Wednesday. The Tigers are 26-44 overall, 15-20 on the road and 35-29 with the under. Detroit sends Matthew Boyd to the mound today. He is 5-5 on the season with a 3.35 ERA.

The Tigers are struggling at the plate this season, averaging just 3.54 runs per game while hitting .229 at the plate. On the mound, Detroit has a 4.89 team ERA with a 1.42 team WHIP. The Tigers are last in the league in strikeouts, with just 563. Leading the team this season is Miguel Cabrera, who has 11 doubles, four home runs and 30 RBI. Nicholas Castellanos has 23 doubles, seven home runs and 25 RBI.

Indians return home

Cleveland is coming off a week of games on the road, going 5-2 in matchups with the Tigers and the Rangers. The Tribe are 39-35 on the season, 20-17 at home and 42-30 with the under. Cleveland has Trevor Bauer on the mound today. He is 5-6 on the season with a 3.41 ERA.

The Tribe have had some great pitching this season. They have a 3.92 team ERA with a 1.22 team WHIP. At the plate, Cleveland averages just 4.38 runs per game while hitting .234. Carlos Santana is leading the team with 14 doubles, 15 home runs and 44 RBI. Jose Ramirez is adding 12 doubles, 28 RBI and 17 stolen bases.

MLB Betting Trends

Detroit

The Tigers are 6-17 in their last 23 games following a loss and 8-20 in Boyd’s last 28 road starts.

Cleveland

The Indians have won six straight following a loss and four of their last five series openers.

Prediction:

The Tribe have won five of the six meetings with the Tigers this season, including three at Detroit last week. Bauer pitched a complete game shutout against Detroit last week and he has allowed just one earned run over his last 16.2 innings. Boyd was pitching quite well early in the year, but has given up 11 runs over his last 16 innings. While Cleveland isn’t a great hitting team, I expect the Tribe to be able to put up enough runs against the Tigers pitching at home today.

MLB Prediction: Cleveland Indians -190
