Mets edged by Cardinals

New York lost by a count of 4-3 Sunday afternoon at home versus St. Louis to drop to 34-37 overall and 20-14 at home. Dominic Smith helped pace the Mets offense as he went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run. Juan Legares ended the contest 2-for-3 with an RBI. Adeiny Hechavarria finished 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Chris Flexen picked up the win in relief as he allowed one earned runs on one hit with two strikeouts and no walks over one inning. Zack Wheeler draws the start as he enters with a 5-4 record, 4.87 ERA and 1.29 WHIP plus 99 strikeouts over 88 2/3 innings.

Braves pound Phillies

Atlanta extended its lead to 2.5 games in the NL East standings Sunday afternoon with a 15-1 home win over Philadelphia. Ronald Acuna Jr. helped lead the Braves offense as he finished 4-for-5 with a home run, four runs scored and two RBIs. Josh Donaldson went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs. Tyler Flowers ended the contest 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk, two runs and two RBIs. Mike Foltynewicz picked up the win as he gave up one earned run on five hits over six innings, striking out six and walking five. Mike Soroka will start tonight for the Braves as he comes in with a 7-1 record, 1.92 ERA and 0.97 WHIP with 60 strikeouts over 70 1/3 innings.

MLB Betting Trends

The Mets are 4-0 in their last four versus the NL East. New York is 4-1 in the last five Wheeler starts.

The Braves are 4-0 in their last four series openers. Atlanta is 9-0 in the last nine Soroka starts versus a team with a losing record.

Soroka is coming off a poor start, but overall the 21-year-old has lived up to the hype and then some this season. I trust him at home, whereas Wheeler just hasn't quite found consistent footing. The Braves are playing fantastic right now and the Mets have had road struggles. Take the home team.
