Mariners trade Encarnacion?
Seattle continued their flip-flopping ways, alternating wins and losses over their last 11 games thanks to an 11-2 loss to Oakland on Saturday. Along with that, the Mariners are reportedly working on trading their top hitter, Edwin Encarnacion, to the Yankees. The Mariners are 30-44 on the season, 17-22 on the road and 49-22 with the over. Mike Leake gets the start for Seattle today. He is 5-6 on the year with a 4.26 ERA.
Seattle never got going on Saturday, as the Mariners put up three runs in the first and never trailed. The Mariners had just six hits and committed four errors in the loss. Gerson Bautista recorded just two outs and gave up three runs to take the loss. Wade LeBlanc then came in and pitched 2.2 innings, but gave up six runs on eight hits. Domingo Santana was the lone Mariner with two hits.
Athletics bounce back
After a loss to Seattle on Friday night, Oakland bounced back with an 11-2 win over Seattle on Saturday. The Athletics are 36-35 on the season, 19-16 at home and 36-35 with the under. Tanner Anderson gets the start for the Athletics this afternoon. He is 0-1 on the season with a 3.18 ERA.
Oakland racked up 13 hits and was aided by the Seattle errors to jump out to a big lead early on Saturday. Despite all the hits, they had just one home run, a solo shot from Marcus Semien, who finished the game with three hits, three runs and two RBI. Jurickson Profar added three hits and four RBI at the plate. Frankie Montas got the win, his ninth of the year, by pitching six innings and allowing just two runs with nine strikeouts.
MLB Betting Trends
Seattle
The Mariners have won five straight games following a loss, but are just 8-20 in their last 28 against a right-handed starter.
Oakland
The Athletics are just 1-6 in their last seven home games and 2-7 in their last nine Sunday games.
Prediction:
Tanner Anderson has just one start this year, a reasonable effort against the Rays in Tampa where he gave up two runs in 5.2 innings. Leake has been pretty consistent with his ERA all season, giving up a handful of runs here and there. He was beat up in Oakland on May 26 for five runs in 6.2 innings. Despite Seattle having a strong trend of bouncing back from losses, I think taking Encarnacion out of the lineup really hurts them. Seattle is a hitting team that lost its best hitter. If the Mariners can’t produce a lot of runs, they are in big trouble.
MLB Prediction: Oakland Athletics -145
