Rangers take opener
Texas suffered two straight losses to Boston coming into this series, but opened things up with a 7-1 win at Cincinnati on Friday. The Rangers are 37-32 on the season, 13-20 on the road and 34-34 with the over/under total. Texas has Mike Minor taking the mound today. He is 5-4 on the season with a 2.52 ERA.
The Rangers were able to silence the Reds at the plate on Friday, holding Cincy to just five hits. Starter Jesse Chavez pitched just three scoreless innings, but the bullpen came in for six strong innings of work. Brett Martin got the win in relief while Drew Smyly recorded a three-inning save. Rougned Odor led Texas at the plate, driving in four runs thanks to a grand slam in the fifth inning. Delino DeShields had a hit with a RBI and two runs scored.
Reds struggle at the plate
Cincinnati dropped the opener and the Reds have lost seven of their last 10. In the seven losses, they have scored two runs or less. The Reds are 30-37 on the season, 15-16 at home and 42-23 with the under. Cincy has Tanner Roark on the mound today. He is 4-5 on the season with a 3.74 ERA.
The Reds were held to just five hits in Friday’s loss. Only one went for extra bases as Yasiel Puig had a double as part of a three-hit night. On the mound, Tyler Mahle allowed four runs on four hits with three walks and four strikeouts. He falls to 2-7 on the year with the loss.
MLB Betting Trends
Texas
The Rangers have won five straight Game 2’s of a series and five of their last seven road games.
Cincinnati
The Reds are 1-4 in their last five home games and 29-62 in their last 91 interleague games.
Prediction:
Roark had been pitching well, but has struggled as of late, allowing eight runs over his last 11 innings. The Reds just can’t seem to figure out interleague play and now they must take on Minor, who has been one of Texas’ better starters. He is coming off an eight-inning start at Boston earlier in the week and should be able to handle this lackluster Cincy lineup. I will go with the Rangers to power past Cincinnati again tonight.
MLB Prediction: Texas Rangers +105
