Indians roll in opener
Cleveland cruised in Friday’s series opener, picking up a 13-4 win for its fourth win in six games. The Tribe are 35-33 on the season, 15-16 on the road and 39-28 with the under. Cleveland has Shane Bieber getting the start this evening. He is 5-2 on the season with a 4.07 ERA.
Friday’s game was competitive early, but the Indians blew things open with eight runs in the fourth inning. Cleveland finished the game with 17 hits. Jake Bauers led the way with four hits and four RBI while Leonys Martin had three RBI and Roberto Perez had three hits, three runs and two RBI. Adam Plutko got the win on the mound, as he pitched six innings with two earned runs allowed and six strikeouts.
Tigers get shelled again
Detroit is coming off the 13-4 loss last night for its fourth loss in five games. The Tigers are now 25-41 on the season, 11-22 at home and 34-28 with the under. Detroit has Gregory Soto taking the mound today. He is 0-2 on the season with an 11.20 ERA.
The Tigers once again had their pitching blow up on Friday. Starter Ryan Carpenter allowed eight runs over three innings while reliever Buck Farmer gave up three runs in two innings. At the plate, Detroit had seven hits. Niko Goodrum, who was the only Tiger to record multiple hits, had a triple while Miguel Cabrera and Brandon Dixon each had solo home runs.
MLB Betting Trends
Cleveland
The Indians have won four straight against a left-handed starter and nine of their last 11 road starts.
Detroit
The Tigers are 5-15 in their last 20 games following a loss and 1-4 in their last five division games.
Prediction:
The Tigers have been a mess at the plate and on the mound this year. I don’t see the pitching going very well today, as Soto has given up 17 earned runs over 13.2 innings of work this year. He also has seven walks to 11 strikeouts. Bieber has had some shaky outings as of late, but he still is capable of good outings. He threw seven scoreless against the Tigers earlier this year and I expect a similar performance today. Go with the Indians to win big.
MLB Prediction: Cleveland Indians -1.5 (-160)
