A's hold on in series finale

Oakland held off a rally attempt by host Texas Sunday afternoon to claim a 9-8 victory. Khris Davis helped pace the Athletics offense as he went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. Matt Olson was 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and two RBIs. Marcus Semien finished 1-for-4 with a double, a walk, two runs and two RBIs. Frankie Montas picked up the win as he allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk over six innings. Blake Treinen earned the save as he allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits with one strikeout and one walk over one inning. Tanner Anderson will make his first start of the season tonight for Oakland.

Rays roll at Red Sox

Tampa Bay scored twice in the top of the first inning and led the entire way Sunday afternoon in a 6-1 victory at Boston. Yandy Diaz paced the Rays offense as he was 4-for-5 with a solo home run and two runs scored. Brandon Lowe also had a major impact as he finished 3-for-5 with two home runs, three runs and three RBIs. Travis d'Arnaud went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Blake Snell picked up the win as he gave up one earned run on five hits with seven strikeouts and one walk over six innings. Charlie Morton will draw the start tonight as he enters with a 7-0 record, 2.30 ERA and 1.06 WHIP with 91 strikeouts over 74 1/3 innings.

MLB Betting Trends

Oakland

The Athletics are 10-3 in their last 13 road games. Oakland is 0-5 in its last five games on astroturf.

Tampa Bay

The Rays are 21-5 in their last 26 Monday games. Tampa Bay is 4-1 in its last five starts by Morton.

Prediction:

Morton's career renaissance over the last few seasons has been remarkable and he is pitching some of the best baseball of his life at the age of 35. With Oakland going with an unknown in Anderson, the Rays are huge favorites for good reason. Look for Morton to stay unblemished on the season as he should get plenty of run support from a Rays team that can punish inexperienced pitchers.
