D-Backs complete sweep at Jays
Arizona rolled to an 8-2 victory Sunday afternoon at Toronto for its fourth consecutive win. The Diamondbacks trailed 2-0 before scoring all eight of their runs in a big third inning. Carson Kelly helped pace the offense as he finished 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and two RBIs. Ketel Marte went 1-for-5 with a solo home run. Eduardo Escobar ended the contest 3-for-3 with a double, two walks and a run scored. Tim Locastro was 1-for-3 with a triple, a walk and three RBIs. Robbie Ray earned the win as he gave up two earned runs on five hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk over 6 2/3 innings. Taylor Clarke draws the start tonight as he enters with a 1-2 record, 4.43 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with 15 strikeouts over 22 1/3 innings.
Phillies edged by Reds
Philadelphia had its four-game winning streak snapped Sunday afternoon with a 4-3 home loss versus Cincinnati. The Phillies led 3-1 until the Reds rallied with three runs in the seventh inning. Rhys Hoskins helped pace the offense as he was 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Jean Segura went 1-for-2 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Maikel Franco was 1-for-3 and scored a run. Jose Alvarez took the loss in relief as he allowed one earned run on two hits without retiring a batter. Jerad Eickhoff will start tonight for Philadelphia as he comes in with a 3-3 record, 4.14 ERA and 1.14 WHIP plus 48 strikeouts over 54 1/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Arizona
The Diamondbacks are 1-4 in their last five Monday games. Arizona is 7-2 in the last nine meetings.
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 7-2 in their last nine home games. Philadelphia is 6-2 in the last eight Eickhoff starts.
Prediction:
Arizona looked great its last series, but it must also be taken with a grain of salt in that it was at a rebuilding Toronto squad. The Diamondbacks have been a fairly pleasant surprise all season, but with a rookie on the mound today I don't like their chances today against a Phillies squad that has played pretty well recently after a poor West Coast trip. Eickhoff is usually reliable and I think he'll help carry the Phillies to a win today.
