Nats avoid potential sweep
After losing the first two games of the series by 5-4 scores, the Nats bounced back on Saturday night with a 4-1 victory. Washington is now 29-35 on the season, 14-20 on the road and 32-27 with the over. Washington will have Stephen Strasburg taking the mound today. He is 6-3 on the season with a 3.54 ERA.
The Nats got another great start for Max Scherzer on Saturday, but this time provided him with enough run support to get a win. Scherzer pitched seven scoreless innings, striking out nine, to move to 4-5 on the season. Sean Doolittle got his 14th save of the year by securing the final out. At the plate, Brian Dozier had a two-run home run to lead Washington while Howie Kendrick and Anthony Rendon each drove in a run as well.
Padres unable to build a win streak
San Diego failed in its quest for a third straight win on Saturday in the 4-1 loss to the Nationals. They are just 4-6 in their last 10. The Padres are 33-32 on the season, 18-19 at home and 31-29 with the over. Luis Perdomo gets the start for the Padres today. He is 1-0 on the season with a 4.08 ERA.
Eric Lauer had a pretty strong start, going seven innings for the Padres on Saturday night. He allowed just three earned runs with five strikeouts. However, he took the loss and fell to 5-5. Austin Allen drove in the lone run for the Padres while Ian Kinsler had the lone extra-base hit, a double. San Diego scattered seven hits throughout the loss.
MLB Betting Trends
Washington
The Nationals have won four straight against a right-handed starter, but just 10-21 in their last 31 following a win.
San Diego
The Padres are 2-5 in their last seven against a right-handed starter and just 1-7 in Perdomo’s last eight starts.
Prediction:
Perdomo is making his first start of the season and his longer outings in relief haven’t produced great results. He gave up four runs in three innings to the Blue Jays on May 26. Strasburg has been getting touched up a bit as well, but still keeps the Nats in most games. I think he will have an improved showing against an average San Diego lineup while the Nats are able to beat up Perdomo or the San Diego bullpen.
MLB Prediction: Washington Nationals -155
