Washington overcame a 3-0 deficit in Friday’s game and took a 4-3 lead entering the bottom of the ninth, but Sean Doolittle gave up two runs to take his second loss of the year, blowing his third save. Erick Fedde gave up three runs in six innings in the start. At the plate, Yan Gomes had two hits and drove in a run while Trea Turner drove in two runs.

Padres squeak out another win

The Padres nearly blew a 3-0 lead on Friday, but managed to rally in the ninth to get the win thanks to a pair of RBI singles from Josh Naylor and Austin Hedges. Fernando Tatis Jr. led the team at the plate with three hits, two RBI and two runs scored. On the mound, Nick Margevicius got the start and pitched 3.2 scoreless innings. Adam Warren was the winning pitcher. He went two innings and allowed one run to improve to 4-1 on the season.

MLB Betting Trends

Washington

The Nationals are 14-6 in in Scherzer’s last 20 Saturday starts and 40-19 in his last 59 road starts.

San Diego

The Padres have won Lauer’s last four starts, but they have lost four straight Game 3’s of a series.

Prediction:

Scherzer continues to pitch well, as he has given up just two runs over his last 20 innings on the mound. He has gotten through at least six innings in eight straight starts as well. Lauer is pitching well too, allowing just one earned run in each of his last four starts. The difference for the two is run support. San Diego has been able to hit for Lauer while the Nationals aren’t doing the same for Scherzer. Washington is actually just 2-8 in his last 10 starts.

MLB Prediction: San Diego Padres +140
