Pittsburgh Pirates Fantasy Spin

Jordan Lyles was charged with four runs over six innings in a loss to the Brewers on Sunday. Lyles surrendered eight hits, including a two-run homer to Eric Thames in the third inning. He struck out five batters and only issued one walk. He also pounded the strike zone relentlessly, throwing 74 of 109 pitches for strikes. It was a solid performance, especially considering the explosive capabilities of the Brewers’ loaded lineup, which came into this one averaging nearly five runs per-game this season. The 28-year-old righty has been remarkably consistent, allowing four earned runs or more in just three of his 11 starts, and needs to be owned in all fantasy leagues. He’ll carry a 3.38 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 61/20 K/BB ratio into a rematch against the Brewers in Milwaukee on Saturday.

Milwaukee Brewers Fantasy Spin

Zach Davies allowed two runs over eight-plus innings in a win over the Pirates on Sunday. Davis coughed up eight hits, but managed to avoid major damage. A sacrifice fly from Kevin Newman in the third inning and an RBI ground out by Josh Bell in the fourth accounted for all of the damage against him in this one. He was extremely efficient, needing only 104 pitches (63 strikes) to complete eight frames. He was lifted after surrendering a lead off double to Colin Moran in the ninth. With the victory, Davies improves to 6-0 with a 2.20 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 45/20 K/BB ratio across 12 starts. He’s slated for a rematch against the Pirates at home on Saturday.
