Semien lifts A's past Rangers

Marcus Semien hit a go-ahead two-run home run Friday night in the ninth inning as Oakland secured a 5-3 lead over host Texas. It was the second home run of the night for Semien as he ended the contest 4-for-5 with the two long balls, three runs and four RBIs. Matt Olson finished 2-for-4 with a double and a run. Mark Canha went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Yusmeiro Petit earned the win in relief as he threw 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief with one hit allowed and two strikeouts. Blake Treinen picked up his 13th save as he allowed one hit with two walks and no strikeouts in a scoreless ninth inning. Paul Blackburn will be making his first start of the season today for the Athletics.

Pence homers in loss

Texas lost 5-3 at home Friday night against Oakland to drop to 32-29 overall and 22-11 on the road. Delino DeShields paced the Rangers offense as he finished 3-for-4 and scored a run. Elvis Andrus ended the contest 2-for-5 with a triple, a run and an RBI. Nomar Mazara finished 2-for-4 with an RBI. Jose Leclerc suffered the loss as he surrendered two earned runs on two hits over one inning of relief, striking out one and walking none. Joe Palumbo will make his MLB debut this afternoon for Texas.

MLB Betting Trends

Oakland

The Athletics are 9-1 in their last 10 road games. Oakland is 3-6 in its last nine games overall.

Texas

The Rangers are 20-9 in their last 29 home games. Oakland is 26-9 in the last 35 meetings.

Prediction:

Blackburn has been up with the A's the last two years, actually showing better during 10 starts as a rookie in 2017 than the smaller sample size of six starts last season. Palumbo is an unknown at the MLB level, but the 24-year-old has fared well in the minors the last several years with a high strikeout rate. While it's hard to make a full judgement on how he will fare, the A's also will not have a full scouting report on him. I think they get to the no more than serviceable Blackburn here and get the afternoon win.
