Braves take opener
Atlanta ended a brief 2-game losing streak on Friday thanks to a 7-1 win over the Marlins. The Braves are 34-29 on the season, 18-14 on the road and 33-27 with the over. Julio Teheran takes the mound for the Braves tonight. He is 3-4 on the season with a 3.28 ERA.
The Braves started fast and never looked back on Friday, as they had a 7-0 lead after five innings while putting up 14 hits for the game. Freddie Freeman had his 17th home run of the season, finishing with two hits and three RBI. Ronald Acuna Jr. had three hits, including a home run, and finished with three RBI. Mike Soroka got the win on the mound, his seventh of the year. Soroka pitched eight innings and allowed just one run on three hits with six strikeouts.
Marlins back to old ways
Miami was looking good earlier in the week, but it has gone back to its old ways by losing back-to-back games where it scored just one run in each game. The Marlins are 23-38 on the season, 11-19 at home and 31-27 with the under. Trevor Richards takes the mound today. He is 3-5 on the season with a 3.53 ERA.
The Marlins were lit up quickly on Friday as Jose Urena lasted just three innings and allowed six runs on 11 hits. He fell to 4-7 on the year. Only Starlin Castro was the lone Miami player to finish with multiple hits. He also drove in the lone run for the team in the loss.
MLB Betting Trends
Atlanta
The Braves are 10-4 in their last 14 road games and 6-2 in their last eight against NL East opponents.
Miami
The Marlins are 5-2 in their last seven home games, but 15-36 in their last 51 games following a loss.
Prediction:
The Marlins have won Richards last four starts, as he has allowed just two earned runs over his last 17.2 innings. Teheran hasn’t been too bad himself, but he isn’t getting many decisions because he doesn’t get deep into games. However, he pitched six scoreless innings against Miami on May 5. My concern with the Marlins is the hitting. Miami has shown who it is the last two games and I don’t think it matters how well the Marlins pitch when they can’t hit.
MLB Prediction: Atlanta Braves -150
