According to oddsmakers, the Brewers are favored at home, as they are getting odds of -250 to win, while the Marlins are getting a money line of +205 to prevail. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 9 runs. The public betting for the contest currently has 72 percent going on Milwaukee at home. This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our MLB Public Betting Page for updated figures on the game.
Marlins dominate in opener
Miami opened its series with Milwaukee by picking up an impressive 16-0 victory for a third straight win. Miami is 22-36 on the season, 11-18 on the road and 30-25 with the under. The Marlins have Sandy Alcantara on the mound today. He is 2-5 on the season with a 4.08 ERA.
The Marlins were once the worst-hitting team in MLB, but they didn’t show that on Tuesday, scoring 11 runs in the fifth inning to eventually finish with 16 runs on 19 hits. Starlin Castro led the way with two hits and three RBI, including his fourth home run of the season. Garrett Cooper had four hits and scored four times while Jorge Alfaro had two hits and two RBI. Pablo Lopez didn’t need much run support, but he got it. He pitched six scoreless innings to improve to 4-5 on the season. He had seven strikeouts in the win.
Brewers get shelled
Milwaukee had a surprising performance on Tuesday, getting soundly beaten by the Marlins at home. Milwaukee is 34-27 on the season, 18-12 at home and 34-26 with the under. The Brewers have Jimmy Nelson getting the start today. He is making his season debut.
The Brewers didn’t have anything go right on Tuesday. Chase Anderson lasted just four innings in his start, allowing four runs on seven hits to fall to 3-1 on the season. Things were worse for Taylor Williams, who allowed eight runs in the fifth while recording just one out. Milwaukee had six hits in the loss. Christian Yelich and Travis Shaw each had two hits.
MLB Betting Trends
Miami
The Marlins are 9-2 in their last 11 games following a win, but just 5-11 in their last 16 games against a winning team.
Milwaukee
The Brewers are 5-1 in their last six following a loss and they have won Nelson’s last five starts.
Prediction:
The Marlins may have used all of their hitting on Tuesday, but you can’t deny they have been playing much better as of late. They get to face Nelson today, who hasn’t pitched since 2017. It’s hard to know what to expect of him. He had a 3.49 ERA in 2017, but has a 4.12 career ERA. The Brewers are strongly favored today with the unknown on the mound and I think that is dangerous. Alcantara actually has went scoreless in two of his last three starts. Milwaukee had to use a lot of arms yesterday while Miami didn’t. I think the Marlins will continue to hit well and I will gladly take them as such a big underdog.
MLB Prediction: Miami Marlins +205
