Phillies drop fourth straight
Philadelphia was shut out 8-0 at the Dodgers Sunday afternoon for its fourth straight defeat to drop to 33-26 overall and 13-15 on the road. The Phillies were limited to three hits, with Cesar Hernandez leading the way as he went 1-for-3 with a double. Andrew McCutchen and J.T. Realmuto were both 1-for-4. Maikel Franco finished 0-for-1 with two walks. The contest was scoreless through six innings before Philadelphia allowed one run in the seventh and seven in the eighth. Vince Velasquez took the loss in relief as he gave up one earned run on two hits with no strikeouts and two walks over two-thirds of an inning. Nola starts tonight for the Phillies as he comes in with a 6-0 record, 4.18 ERA and 1.48 WHIP with 74 strikeouts over 64 2/3 innings.
Padres drop two of three to Marlins
After winning the series opener, San Diego lost by a count of 9-3 each of the last two days at home versus Miami including Sunday afternoon's finale. The game was delayed at one point by a swarm of bees inside the stadium. The Padres trailed 9-0 in the seventh inning before getting on the board. Hunter Renfroe paced the San Diego offense as he went 2-for-3 with two home runs, a walk and three RBIs. Josh Naylor finished 1-for-4 and scored a run. Austin Allen ended the contest 1-for-3. Matt Strahm suffered the loss as he surrendered seven earned runs on seven hits over 4 1/3 innings, striking out five and walking none. Eric Lauer gets the start tonight as he enters with a 4-4 record, 4.45 ERA and 1.26 WHIP with 49 strikeouts over 58 2/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 6-0 in the last six Nola starts. Philadelphia is 4-11 in its last 15 games versus the NL West.
San Diego
The Padres are 4-1 in their last five series openers. San Diego is 1-4 in the last five Lauer starts versus the NL East.
Prediction:
Nola has been a little inconsistent this season and has had issues with walks, but he was strong in his last start and faces a San Diego squad that was so brutal the last couple days against lowly Miami that it got booed by the home crowd. Philadelphia is in need of getting the bad taste out of its collective mouth from the series at the Dodgers and it should find success behind Nola here.
