Gomez helps Mets to win

An RBI pinch-hit double by Carlos Gomez in the top of the eighth inning Friday night broke a tie and lifted New York to a 5-4 victory at Arizona. Todd Frazier helped pace the Mets offense by going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Wilson Ramos finished 2-for-5 with a run. Adeiny Hechavarria ended the contest 2-for-4 with a double, a run and two RBIs. Zack Wheeler earned the win as he gave up four earned runs on seven hits with nine strikeouts and no walks over seven innings. Jacob deGrom gets the start tonight for New York as he enters with a 3-5 record, 3.71 ERA and 1.17 WHIP with 77 strikeouts over 63 innings.

Marte, Walker homer in loss

Arizona gave up two runs in the top of the eighth inning and fell 5-4 at home Friday night against New York. Christian Walker helped the Diamondbacks offensively as he was a perfect 3-for-3 with a home run, a walk, two runs scored and two RBIs. Ketel Marte ended the game 1-for-4 with a solo home run. Eduardo Escobar finished 2-for-4 with a double. Matt Andriese took the loss in relief as he allowed two earned runs on four hits with one strikeout and no walks over one inning. Zack Greinke draws the start tonight for Arizona as he comes in with a 6-2 record, 2.78 ERA and 0.88 WHIP with 73 strikeouts over 77 2/3 innings.

Prediction:

After being so automatic in 2018, deGrom hasn't quite found his footing this season although more times than not he is in fine form. But once again, the Mets are struggling to support him on a consistent basis and it isn't likely to get better tonight facing Greinke. Expect another fantastic outing by Greinke and just enough run support for the D-Backs to slip by deGrom and the Mets.
