This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our MLB Public Betting Page for updated figures on the game.
Astros take the opener
Houston managed a 1-run victory over the Athletics on Friday to open the series, 3-2. Houston is now 38-20 on the season, 16-12 on the road and 33-22 with the under. The Astros have Justin Verlander getting the start tonight. He is 8-2 on the season with a 2.38 ERA.
The Astros trailed 2-0 for most of the game on Friday, but managed three runs over the seventh and eighth innings. Josh Reddick homered in the seventh and then Derek Fisher had a solo home run in the eighth to lead the Astros to the win. Brad Peacock pitched six innings, allowing just two runs for a no decision. Hector Rondon got the win in relief, pitching a 1-hit seventh inning. Roberto Osuna got his 16th save of the year with a perfect ninth inning.
Athletics fall again
Oakland has lost three straight games following Friday’s 3-2 loss to Houston. The Athletics are 29-28 on the season, 18-13 at home and 29-28 with the under. Oakland has Brett Anderson getting the start today. He is 6-3 on the season with a 3.86 ERA.
The Athletics managed just six hits on Friday. Matt Chapman drove in both runs by hitting his 15th home run of the season. On the mound, Mike Fiers pitched 6.2 innings and allowed two runs for a no decision. Lou Trivino blew a save in the eighth to take the loss. He gave up the solo home run to Fisher.
MLB Betting Trends
Houston
The Astros are 56-26 in their last 82 road games and 23-5 in Verlander’s last 28 road starts.
Oakland
The Athletics are 50-24 in their last 74 home games, but 3-9 in their last 12 after scoring two runs or less in their previous game.
Prediction:
Anderson has had two strong back-to-back starts, but he isn’t getting terribly deep into games. Verlander has a high ceiling for his starts, as his worst outing is just four runs over six innings. Over seven of his last 10 starts, Verlander has allowed one run or less. He still is mowing down hitters and limiting the walks. I think Verlander will be able to do enough to carry Houston to another win over Oakland.
MLB Prediction: Houston Astros -160
