Phillies fall in series finale

Philadelphia lost by a count of 5-3 Thursday afternoon at home against St. Louis to drop to 33-23 overall and 20-11 at home. Bryce Harper helped pace the offense as he finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Andrew McCutchen was 1-for-4 with two walks and two runs. Rhys Hoskins ended the game 1-for-2 with two walks and an RBI. Jean Segura went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run. Jake Arrieta will start tonight for the Phillies as he enters with a 5-4 record, 3.60 ERA and 1.30 WHIP with 59 strikeouts over 70 innings pitched.

Ryu spectacular in win

Hyun-Jin Ryu ended his fantastic month of May in sizzling fashion Thursday night in a 2-0 home victory over the Mets. Ryu threw 7 2/3 shutout innings to earn the win as he gave up four hits with seven strikeouts and one walk. Kenley Jansen threw the final 1 1/3 innings of perfect baseball with two strikeouts for his 16th save. David Freese helped pace the offense as he finished 2-for-4 and scored a run. Alex Verdugo went 2-for-3 and scored a run. Max Muncy was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. MLB Betting Trends

Philadelphia

The Phillies are 5-0 in their last five series openers. Philadelphia is 4-1 in its last five Friday games.

Los Angeles

The Dodgers are 4-0 in the last four Maeda home starts. Los Angeles is 9-3 in its last 12 home games versus the Phillies.

Prediction:

This is a decent pitching matchup with a pair of strong offenses, but with the way the Dodgers are playing at home right now they are tough to fade. Maeda typically pitches his best at home and Arrieta isn't the overpowering pitcher he once was. Look for the Dodgers to make a strong statement here against another very good team.
