Texas Rangers Fantasy Spin
Drew Smyly finally recorded his first victory of the year after allowing three runs in six innings Friday against the Angels. Smyly won despite giving up two more runs than opposing starter Griffin Canning. That's because Canning left after five, and the Rangers went on to score once in the sixth and twice in the seventh in what ended up being a 4-3 game. Smyly had been 0-3 with a 6.51 ERA in his seven outings this year. His previous win in the majors came on Sept. 13, 2016, before he missed two years with elbow problems.
Seattle Mariners Fantasy Spin
Wade LeBlanc was torched for seven runs on seven hits over 2 1/3 innings in a loss to the Twins on Saturday. LeBlanc surrendered a career-high four home runs, including a grand slam to Byron Buxton in the second inning. The 34-year-old veteran southpaw simply didn't have it in his first start after missing nearly a month with an oblique injury. He struck out two batters and also issued a pair of walks. The disastrous outing inflates his ERA from 4.50 to 7.36 this season. He'll attempt to turn thing around against the Athletics on Friday.
