Padres lose second straight

San Diego lost its second consecutive game on Monday in a 5-2 loss at New York in the series opener. The Padres are 28-26 on the season, 14-12 on the road and 27-25 with the under. San Diego has Eric Lauer on the mound tonight. He is 3-4 on the season with a 4.73 ERA.

The Padres took a 2-0 lead on New York in the second inning of Monday’s game, but quickly lost the lead and couldn’t respond. Josh Naylor and Austin Hedges each had doubles in the second to drive in the two runs. Matt Strahm took the loss as he allowed three runs over six innings despite striking out 10. He is now 2-4 on the season.

Yankees bounce back

New York had its 7-game winning streak come to an end on Sunday in a loss to Kansas City, but the Yankees bounced back by winning the series opener against the Padres. New York is now 35-18 on the season, 18-10 at home and 29-22 with the over. The Yankees have Masahiro Tanaka on the mound today. He is 3-3 on the season with a 2.94 ERA.

The Yankees drove in four of their five runs via the home run on Monday. Brett Gardner, Gary Sanchez and Clint Frazier each went long. Sanchez has 16 home runs on the year. Gardner finished the game with two RBI. David Hale got the win in relief, giving up two runs over four innings. He is 1-0 on the season. Aroldis Chapman picked up his 15th save of the year, giving up one hit in the ninth.

MLB Betting Trends

San Diego

The Padres are just 2-5 in their last seven road games and 4-10 in the last 14 games against AL East opponents.

New York

The Yankees are 14-3 in their last 17 interleague games against a left-handed starter and 9-2 in their last 11 games against a winning team.

Prediction:

Tanaka has been really strong this year and has given up just two runs over his last 19 innings on the mound. Lauer hasn’t been too bad recently as well, but he gave up eight runs over three innings in his last road start. New York has a powerful lineup that could give Lauer a lot of problems. I suspect that the Yankees will be able to get to him while Tanaka limits what San Diego can do at the plate.

MLB Prediction: New York Yankees -200
