Tigers fall in opener
Detroit lost by a count of 5-3 Monday afternoon at Baltimore to drop to 19-32 overall and 10-15 on the road. Nicholas Castellanos helped lead the Tigers offense as he finished 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Brandon Dixon was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and two runs scored. Grayson Greiner ended the contest 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Daniel Norris suffered the loss as he surrendered four runs (two earned) on six hits with five strikeouts and three walks over 5 2/3 innings. Matthew Boyd draws the start tonight for Detroit as he enters with a 4-4 record, 3.11 ERA and 1.01 WHIP with 80 strikeouts over 66 2/3 innings.
Villar, Nunez homer in win
Baltimore earned a 5-3 victory Monday afternoon at home over Detroit to improve to 17-37 overall and 7-19 at home. Renato Nunez helped pace the Orioles offense as he finished 1-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. Jonathan Villar went 1-for-3 with a solo home run. Hanser Alberto was 2-for-4 with a double and a run. Dan Straily earned the win in relief as he allowed one earned run on three hits with four strikeouts and one walk over four innings. Dylan Bundy draws the start tonight as he comes in with a 2-5 record, 4.67 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with 52 strikeouts over 52 innings pitched.
MLB Betting Trends
The Tigers are 17-35 in their last 52 Tuesday games. Detroit is 7-18 in the last 25 Boyd starts on the road.
The Orioles are 6-20 in the last 26 Bundy starts. Baltimore is 29-73 in its last 102 games overall.
Detroit seems to check out against poor competition as evidenced by getting swept at home by Miami and now losing yesterday at Baltimore. The Tigers don't fare well in Boyd's road starts despite him being the superior pitcher in this matchup. Bundy is inconsistent, but very capable of strong starts especially against poor offenses like Detroit. I'm going to take the hosts for a second home win in as many days.
