Padres on a roll
San Diego took the opener of this weekend series on Friday, 6-3, and followed that up with an impressive 19-4 win on Saturday for a fifth consecutive victory overall. The Padres are 28-24 on the season, 14-10 on the road and 26-24 with the under. Chris Paddack is getting the start today. He is 4-2 on the season with a 1.93 ERA.
The Padres put up 20 hits on Saturday, as they scored in all but two innings. They knocked out seven home runs with Hunter Renfroe and Will Myers each picking up two. Renfroe has 14 home runs on the year now and he drove in three on Saturday while Myers drove in four. Austin Hedges actually led the team with five RBI. On the mound, Cal Quantrill earned his first win thanks to all the run support. He pitched six innings and had nine strikeouts while allowing three runs.
Jays in a funk
Toronto is on a four-game losing streak following a 19-4 loss at home to the Padres on Saturday. The Blue Jays are 20-32 on the season, 9-18 at home and 28-23 with the under. Toronto has Marcus Stroman getting the start for the Jays today. He is 2-6 on the season with a 2.81 ERA.
Toronto never really had a chance as Edwin Jackson gave up seven runs over four innings to take his second loss of the year. The next four Toronto pitchers each gave up multiple runs as well. At the plate, Justin Smoak had his ninth home run of the season and drove in two while Lourdes Gurriel Jr. homered for the second consecutive game.
MLB Betting Trends
San Diego
The Padres have won five straight interleague games and five straight against a right handed-starter.
Toronto
The Blue Jays have lost 18 of their last 24 games overall now and they have dropped five of their last six interleague games.
Prediction:
Stroman hasn’t been too bad on the mound, but he isn’t getting much help from his teammates and I would suspect that will be an issue again today. Paddack has some strong numbers on the mound and he has been able to get deeper into games. I suspect he can handle this Toronto lineup while the Padre hitters get to Stroman, or the lackluster Toronto bullpen.
MLB Prediction: San Diego Padres -125
