Gonzalez helps power Twins
Minnesota secured an 8-3 victory Wednesday night at Los Angeles to improve to 32-16 overall and 17-8 on the road. After trailing 3-0 into the sixth inning, the Twins scored three in that frame to tie it and then four in the seventh to take full control. Marwin Gonzalez helped lead the Minnesota offense as he went 2-for-5 with a home run, a double, two runs scored and three RBIs. Luis Arraez was 2-for-4 with a solo home run. Jorge Polanco ended the night 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. Eddie Rosario finished 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Michael Pineda earned the win as he surrendered three earned on four hits with three strikeouts and two walks over six innings. Martin Perez will start tonight for the Twins as he comes in with a 6-1 record, 2.89 ERA and 1.26 WHIP with 53 strikeouts over 53 innings.
Angels blow lead at home
Los Angeles lost a third straight game Tuesday night as it fell 8-3 at home against Minnesota. The Angels led 3-0 in the sixth inning before giving up eight unanswered runs. Mike Trout led LA offensively as he was 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk. David Fletcher was a perfect 3-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Luis Rengifo ended the contest 1-for-4 with a run scored. Luke Bard suffered the loss as he allowed four earned runs on four hits with no strikeouts or walks over one inning of relief. Matt Harvey draws the start tonight as he enters with a 2-3 record, 6.35 ERA and 1.43 WHIP with 34 strikeouts over 45 1/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Minnesota
The Twins are 8-1 in their last nine road games. Minnesota is 5-1 in the last six Perez starts.
Los Angeles
The Angels are 0-4 in the last four meetings. Los Angeles is 2-5 in its last seven home games.
Prediction:
While Perez is likely headed for some regression, his strikeout rate is solid this season and he's pitching with as much confidence as any point in his career. As long as he can navigate around Trout and Ohtani without a ton of damage, he should get the run support necessary to send the Twins to another win. Harvey has been a major disappointment for the Angels and I don't see that changing against a potent Minnesota offense.
