Washington Nationals vs. New York Mets 5/21/19, Prediction & Odds

The New York Mets shrugged off a miserable weekend with a victory last night in their series opener at home versus the NL East foe Washington Nationals. Is a bet on New York the right way to go again tonight?

Rendon homers in defeat

Washington suffered a 5-3 loss Monday night at New York to fall to 19-28 overall and 9-14 on the road. The Nationals trailed 4-0 through three innings and were unable to recover. Anthony Rendon paced the offense as he went 2-for-2 with a solo homer, a double, two walks and two runs. Yan Gomes finished 3-for-4 with an RBI. Juan Soto ended the contest 1-for-4 with an RBI. Patrick Corbin took the loss as he allowed four earned runs on six hits over five innings, striking out seven and walking three. Erick Fedde will start tonight for Washington as he enters with a 0-0 record, 3.38 ERA and 1.03 WHIP with seven strikeouts over 10 2/3 innings.

Rosario, Alonso homer in win

New York snapped a five-game losing streak Monday night at home with a 5-3 win over Washington. Amed Rosario helped lead the offense as he went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and two runs. Pete Alonso was 1-for-3 with a solo homer. Todd Frazier was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Drew Gagnon picked up the win in relief as he threw two scoreless innings, striking out two and walking one while giving up no hits. Zack Wheeler will start tonight's game for the Mets as he comes in with a 3-3 record, 4.85 ERA and 1.44 WHIP with 64 strikeouts over 55 2/3 innings.

MLB Betting Trends

Washington

The Nationals are 8-17 in their last 25 games overall. Washington is 1-5 in the last six Fedde starts.

New York

The Mets are 4-0 in their last four Tuesday games. New York is 8-3 in the last 11 Wheeler home starts.

Prediction:

Wheeler has been inconsistent this season and I don't really trust him or the Mets offense right now. While Fedde isn't great by any means, the Nationals have hopes for him as a rotation guy and he's at least serviceable. Considering New York was just shut out by the last two righties they faced in Miami in Pablo Lopez and Sandy Alcantara, I don't see anything wrong with betting on Fedde and the Nats here.
