Public Betting Trends

According to oddsmakers, the Cubs are favored on the road, as they are getting odds of -130 to win. The Nationals are listed with a money line of +120 to prevail, while the over/under total is set at 10 runs. The public betting for the contest currently has 85 percent going on the Cubs as the road favorite. This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our MLB Public Betting Page for updated figures on the game.

Cubs unable to go back-to-back

Chicago took the opener in impressive fashion, 14-6, but then suffered a 5-2 loss on Saturday. The Cubs are 26-17 on the season, 11-11 on the road and 22-21 with the over. Kyle Hendricks gets the start for Chicago tonight. He is 3-4 on the season with a 2.86 ERA.

The Cubs were held to just four hits in the loss on Saturday, as a David Bote solo home run was the lone extra-base hit in the game for the Cubs. Jon Lester got beat up quickly, as he gave up 10 hits and five earned runs over 4.1 innings of work. Lester falls to 3-2 on the season in the loss. The Chicago pen did pitch 3.2 innings of scoreless ball.

Nationals bounce back

The Nationals are trying to build some steam, as they have won three of their last four games following a 5-2 win last night. Washington is 19-26 on the season, 10-13 at home and 22-20 with the over. The Nationals have Jeremy Hellickson on the mound today. He is 2-2 on the season with a 6.00 ERA.

Stephen Strasburg looked strong on the mound for the Nats, pitching eight innings and alloweing just one earned run with seven strikeouts to improve to 4-3 on the year. Sean Doolittle recorded his eighth save of the season with a perfect ninth inning. At the plate Juan Soto had two hits and drove in three runs while Brian Dozier had two hits, including his sixth home run of the year.

MLB Betting Trends

Chicago

The Cubs are 9-2 in their last 11 games following a loss and 9-4 in their last 13 road games.

Washington

The Nationals are just 2-8 in their last 10 against the NL Central, but 6-1 in Hellickson’s last seven home starts.

Prediction:

While the Nationals have been able to win at home behind Hellickson, his numbers haven’t been very good. He has failed to get past five innings in his last five starts while allowing a total of 23 runs in that span. The Cubs have won Hendricks last three starts, as he has pitched 25 innings and allowed just one earned run. He hasn’t given up an earned run in three of his last five outings. I think he’s able to continue his hot run today to help lead the Cubs past the Nations.

MLB Prediction: Chicago Cubs -130
