Rockies unable to complete sweep
Colorado lost 6-5 in 10 innings Wednesday night at Boston after winning the first two games in the series. The Rockies tied the game with a three-run seventh inning before falling in the 10th. Trevor Story was 2-for-5 with two RBIs in the defeat. Ian Desmond finished 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and a run. Ryan McMahon was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run. Tony Wolters ended the contest 2-for-4 with two doubles, a run and an RBI. Chad Bettis took the loss in relief as he allowed one earned run on two hits plus a walk while not retiring a batter. Jon Gray will start tonight for Colorado as he comes in with a 3-3 record, 4.25 ERA and 1.34 WHIP with 51 strikeouts over 48 2/3 innings.
Phillies drop three of four at home
Philadelphia lost its series opener at home before losing the next three games against Milwaukee including Thursday afternoon's 11-3 loss. The Phillies trailed 4-3 through six innings before giving up seven runs over the last three frames. Jean Segura led Philadelphia offensively as he went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Andrew McCutchen was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run. Bryce Harper was 1-for-4 with a run. Zach Eflin suffered the loss as he allowed four earned runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and two walks over five innings. Cole Irvin will start tonight for Philadelphia after giving up one earned run on five hits with five strikeouts and one walk in his MLB debut on May 12, a 6-1 victory at Kansas City.
MLB Betting Trends
Colorado
The Rockies are 5-2 in their last seven games versus the NL East. Colorado is 4-1 in the last five Gray starts.
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 27-13 in the last 40 home meetings. Philadelphia is 1-8 in its last nine games versus the NL West.
Prediction:
Colorado played strong, competitive baseball at Boston and will face a pitcher making only his second MLB start tonight. The Rockies have some hitter's who can take advantage of left-handed pitching and Gray has a much better opponent batting average in road games, which is no surprise. I like the underdogs here as the Phillies are still licking their wounds from the series against Milwaukee.
