According to oddsmakers, the Athletics are favored on the road, as they are getting odds of -145 to win. The Tigers are listed with odds of +125 to win, while the over/under total is set at 8.5 runs. The public betting for the contest currently has 71 percent going on the Athletics on the road. This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our MLB Public Betting Page for updated figures on the game.

Athletics drop third straight

The Oakland Athletics are coming off a 4-3 loss at Seattle on Tuesday for their third consecutive loss. Oakland is now 19-25 on the season, 5-15 on the road and 22-22 with the over/under total. The Athletics have Chris Bassitt taking the mound today. He is 1-1 on the season with a 2.55 ERA.

The Athletics are averaging 4.41 runs per game on offense this season while hitting just .236 as a team. On the mound, Oakland has a 4.31 ERA as a staff to go with a 1.29 WHIP. Matt Chapman is leading the team with 10 doubles, 10 home runs and 24 RBI. Khris Davis is adding 12 home runs and 28 RBI.

Tigers swept at home

Detroit got swept at home this week against the Astros, suffering three straight losses. That included a 5-1 loss on Wednesday against former Tiger Justin Verlander. Detroit is now 18-23 on the season, 9-11 at home and 23-17 with the under. The Tigers have Spencer Turnbull taking the mound today. He is 2-2 on the season with a 2.42 ERA.

The Tigers are one of the worst teams in the league regarding hitting. They average just 3.41 runs per game while hitting .223 as a team. On the mound, Detroit has a 4.83 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP. Team leader Miguel Cabrera is questionable to play today, as he is dealing with a knee injury. Cabrera has 15 RBI this year for Detroit. Nicholas Castellanos has 12 doubles, three triples, three home runs and 12 RBI.

MLB Betting Trends

The Athletics are 39-12 in their last 51 games against AL Central opponents, but just 4-17 in their last 21 road games against a losing team.

The Tigers have won Turnbull’s last four starts, but they are just 13-41 in their last 54 against AL West opponents.

Turnbull has pitched quite well for Detroit, giving up just four earned runs over his last five starts. However, he is going to have to be just as strong today, if not better. The Tigers don’t produce runs and they are facing a solid pitcher in Bassitt. Oakland also had a day off yesterday while the Tigers played last night. The quick turnaround isn’t likely to help, even with the game being at home. I think Detroit’s bats will continue to struggle, especially if Cabrera is out once again.

MLB Prediction: Oakland Athletics -145
