Oakland A’s Fantasy Spin

Matt Olson hit his first home run of the season in Sunday's loss to the Indians. Olson suffered a broken hamate bone during the first series of the season, an injury that is often known to sap power. In that way, his homer in the sixth inning of Sunday's game was noteworthy. It wasn't a cheap one, either, a towering fly ball that cleared the first few rows of seats in right field at spacious Oakland Coliseum. In eight games he's hitting a scant .214/.313/.357, and it will be worth monitoring how his power numbers look as the season goes on.

Seattle Mariners Fantasy Spin

Edwin Encarnacion went 0-for-3 with a sacrifice fly in Sunday's loss to the Red Sox. Encarnacion got things started out well enough for the M's via his first-inning sacrifice fly off Hector Velazquez, but that would essentially be the high point of the game for the road squad. The Red Sox would plate three of their own in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead back, a lead which they would not relinquish through to the end of the contest. For the season as a whole, veteran slugger Encarnacion is slashing .232/.363/.507 with 12 home runs and 28 RBI across 138 at-bats. While the average is lacking, he remains a major power threat. Encarnacion has conked at least 30 home runs in seven consecutive seasons. Already almost halfway home to that mark and we've yet to even break out the Memorial Day barbecues.
