Rangers crushed by Astros
Texas fell by a count of 11-4 Saturday at Houston to drop to 17-20 overall and 5-13 on the road. The Rangers led 1-0 in the fourth inning, but from there on the hosts took control of the contest. Hunter Pence helped lead the Texas offense as he went 2-for-4 with a double and a solo home run. Ronald Guzman finished 1-for-4 with a 3-run homer. Rougned Odor and Asdrubal Cabrera each finished 1-for-4 and scored a run. Drew Smyly suffered the loss as he allowed five runs (four earned) on four hits with three strikeouts and four walks over 4 2/3 innings. Adrian Sampson starts today for Texas as he comes in with an 0-2 record, 4.41 ERA and 1.41 WHIP with 21 strikeouts over 32 2/3 innings.
Cole K's 12 in win
Gerrit Cole threw six sharp innings Saturday night as host Houston rolled to an 11-4 victory at home over Texas. Cole gave up one earned run on four hits with 12 strikeouts and no walks during his time on the mound. Michael Brantley helped lead the offense as he went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and three runs scored. Aledmys Diaz went 1-for-4 with a grand slam. Yuli Gurriel was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI. MLB Betting Trends
Texas
The Rangers are 4-0 in their last four Sunday games. Texas is 2-8 in its last 10 versus the AL West.
Houston
The Astros are 4-1 in their last five Sunday games. Houston is 57-28 in its last 85 games overall.
Prediction:
It's difficult to back a pitcher making his MLB debut, but Martin has been stellar in the minors and he should get plenty of run support with the Astros likely teeing off against Sampson. I'm not here to take chances in this one as I'm going back to the well for a third consecutive game in this series. Take the favored hosts.
