Rangers held to two hits
Texas mustered only two hits Friday night in a 3-0 loss at Houston to drop to 17-19 overall and 5-12 on the road. Asdrubal Cabrera went 1-for-3 in the defeat, while Shin-Soo Choo ended the night 1-for-4. Lance Lynn suffered the loss as he surrendered three earned runs on six hits over seven innings, striking out eight and walking one. Jesse Chavez starts tonight for the Rangers as he enters with an 0-1 record, 7.27 ERA and 1.90 WHIP with 13 strikeouts over 17 1/3 innings.
Verlander sensational in win
Houston hurler Justin Verlander allowed just one hit over seven innings Friday night in a 3-0 home victory over Texas. Verlander struck out eight and walked two while improving to 6-1 on the season with a 2.51 ERA. Roberto Osuna gave up one hit while striking out one to pick up his 10th save in a scoreless ninth inning. The Astros scored one run in the third inning and added two insurance runs in the seventh. Jake Marisnick helped pace the offense by going 2-for-3 with a solo home run. Yuli Gurriel and Robinson Chirinos were both 1-for-3 with a solo home run. Cole comes in with a 3-4 record, 4.17 ERA and 1.05 WHIP with 74 strikeouts over 49 2/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Texas
The Rangers are 17-37 in their last 54 road games. Texas is 2-7 in its last nine games versus the AL West.
Houston
The Astros are 13-3 in the last 16 Cole starts at home. Houston is 6-1 in its last seven games overall.
Prediction:
While the Rangers are better equipped to handle right-handed pitching, it certainly didn't help against Verlander and it might not help against strikeout wizard Cole either. On the other side, Chavez will likely be figured out quickly by the potent Astros offense to lead to a long day for Texas. Take the runline bet if the moneyline is too much to stomach.
