Miami Marlins Fantasy Spin
Jose Urena gave up five runs over six innings Friday in a loss to the Braves. Urena was tagged for six hits, including a pair of home runs. He surrendered a solo shot to Freddie Freeman in the first inning and also coughed up a two-run blast to Brian McCann in the sixth. The 27-year-old righty had allowed three earned runs or fewer, while tossing at least six frames, in three consecutive starts prior to this one. With the loss, he falls to 1-5 with a pedestrian 5.45 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 29/12 K/BB ratio across seven starts. He can be safely ignored in all fantasy formats when he squares off against the Cubs on the road in his next start on Wednesday.
Chicago Cubs Fantasy Spin
Kyle Hendricks needed just 81 pitches to complete a shutout last Friday in the Cubs' 4-0 victory over the Cardinals. He struck out just three batters on the day, but Hendricks limited the Cards to a mere four singles and no walks as he cruised through his nine frames. It's just the fourth time since 1990 that a pitcher has gotten a shutout on 81 pitches or fewer. The shutout is the third of Hendricks' career but is his first complete game since 2016. It's been an up-and-down season so far for the right-hander, as he was lit up for seven runs in his last outing but fanned 11 over seven shutout frames in his start before that. Hendricks has a cake matchup against the Marlins the next time out.
MLB Betting Trends
Miami
The Marlins have now lost seven of their last eight meetings with the Cubs.
Milwaukee
The Cubs have won 11 of their last 13 meetings with the Marlins at Wrigley Field.
Prediction:
Hendricks had been struggling prior to his start last Friday versus the Cardinals but he has historically pitched well at Wrigley Field. In fact, the Cubs are 7-2 in Hendrick’s last nine home starts. Chicago is also 4-1 in his last five outings versus the Marlins and this is another good opportunity to back the Cubs on the runline. The Marlins are just 1-6 in Jose Urena’s last seven starts and employ one of the worst offenses in baseball.
The Pick: Chicago Cubs -1.5
