Seattle Mariners Fantasy Spin
Jay Bruce hit a grand slam in the first inning in the Mariners' 10-0 rout of the Indians on Sunday. Bruce got the Mariners off to a great start with a grand slam off of Cody Anderson in the top of the first to make it 4-0 Mariners. It's the 11th homer of the season for the 32-year-old, and he's now driven in 22 runs over 29 games. Bruce is also hitting just .189 with a .259 on-base percentage, but the power is still there.
New York Yankees Fantasy Spin
Mike Tauchman hit a two-run home run in Sunday's win over the Twins. Twins starter Michael Pineda left a cutter in the middle of the plate and Tauchman touched it up, ripping it into the right field stands for a two-run blast in the fourth inning. The homer was the fourth of the year for Tauchman, who's moved into a more prominent role with the Yanks in the wake of their glut of injuries. The 28-year-old is hitting just .176/.282/.392 in 26 games and will move back into a reserve role as the Yankees get Clint Frazier, Aaron Hicks and others back in the coming days.
MLB Betting Trends
Seattle
The Mariners are 4-12 in Hernandez’s last 16 starts.
New York
The Yankees have won 26 of Sabathia’s last 35 outings at home.
Prediction:
With the way both of these teams can hit the ball out of the yard, there should be more than enough runs scored on Monday evening to push the score over the total. Hernandez’s ERA sits at 5.34 and his xFIP isn’t much better at 4.46, while Sabathia’s ERA is 3.53 but his 4.28 xFIP indicate that a regression is coming at some point. Both pitchers do a good job of producing ground balls but neither rack up a lot of strikeouts and Hernandez’s hard-hit rate is 39.3%. The over is 4-1 in the Yankees’ last four home games, is 8-3 in their last 10 games overall and is 5-2 in Hernandez’s last seven road outings.
The Pick: Mariners/Yankees OVER 9.5
