San Francisco Giants Fantasy Spin
Evan Longoria swatted a go-ahead solo homer in the 11th inning on Friday, powering the Giants to a come-from-behind 12-11 victory over the Reds. It didn't look good for the Giants when they were facing a 10-3 deficit after the fifth inning, but they kept battling back. They scratched out four runs in the sixth inning, then three more in the eighth -- highlighted by a two-run single by Longoria that pulled the Giants to within a run at 11-10. After Stephen Vogt slugged a game-tying two-out homer in the ninth, Longoria put the exclamation point on the comeback with his solo shot off of Jared Hughes in the 11th. Longoria finished the night 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and two RBI and is now slashing .223/.263/.402 with four homers and 13 RBI on the year.
Cincinnati Reds Fantasy Spin
Nick Senzel reached base three times and scored a run in a losing effort against the Giants in his MLB debut on Friday. Senzel worked a pair of walks in the contest, then collected his first big league hit on a slow dribbler to third base in the ninth inning. The rookie sensation hit second in his first taste of the big leagues, and that's where he's likely to remain, which should provide ample opportunities to rack up counting stats.
MLB Betting Trends
San Francisco
The Giants are 7-2 in Dereck Rodriguez’s last nine road starts but are just 3-10 in his last 13 outings overall.
Cincinnati
The Reds have dropped five of their last seven games but are 5-2 in their last seven games following a loss.
Prediction:
These offenses stink but after last night’s outburst, coupled with the fact that the over is 9-4-2 in the last 15 meetings between these two teams in Cincinnati, I like the over again tonight. As they displayed last night, the Reds have a bottom-10 bullpen and with the Giants forced to go to their relievers early last night after Tyler Beede blew up, both of these pens are taxed. Rodriguez does a good job of avoiding walks but he gives up hard contact at a 39.9% rate while Tanner Roark usually limits hard contact, but owns a 5.19 xFIP so I expect the ball to find holes tonight. The over is 5-2-1 in the last eight meetings between these two teams.
