A's drop sixth straight

Oakland fell 7-3 Wednesday at Boston for its sixth consecutive defeat to drop to 14-19 on the season and 4-11 on the road. The Athletics led 1-0 in the second inning before giving up seven runs in a row prior to scoring a pair in the ninth inning. Khris Davis paced the Oakland offense by going 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Matt Chapman finished 2-for-4 with a double and a run. Chad Pinder ended the contest 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Mike Fiers suffered the loss as he surrendered three earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts and one walk over five innings. Brett Anderson draws the start tonight as he enters with a 3-2 record, 4.35 ERA and 1.48 WHIP with 18 strikeouts over 31 innings of work.

Pirates outlast Rangers

Pittsburgh earned a 7-5 victory Wednesday at Texas for its second consecutive win in the series. A four-run fourth inning kept the Pirates (14-14, 8-7 road) ahead for good. Starling Marte helped lead Pittsburgh as he finished 2-for-5 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Melky Cabrera finished 2-for-3 with a walk, a run and a walk. Bryan Reynolds was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and three RBIs. Jameson Taillon picked up the victory on the mound as he allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits over 6 1/3 innings, striking out five and walking two. Joe Musgrove will start tonight for the Pirates as he comes in with a 1-2 record, 1.54 ERA and 0.89 WHIP plus 31 strikeouts over 35 innings.
