Red Sox drops opener
Boston saw its three-game win streak come to an end on Thursday in a 6-4 loss at Chicago to the White Sox. The Red Sox are now 14-18 overall, 6-11 on the road and 18-13 with the over. Chris Sale gets the start for Boston this evening. He is 0-5 on the season with a 6.30 ERA.
The Red Sox gave up three runs in the bottom of the ninth to blow Thursday’s game. Ryan Brasier blew his second save of the season, giving up the three runs in just 0.1 innings of work. David Price pitched six innings in the start and allowed seven hits and three runs. Andrew Benintendi had a solo home run for Boston in the loss while Rafael Devers drove in two runs.
White Sox grab another win
Chicago has won five of its last six games following Thursday’s victory. Their last two losses were by just one run each. Chicago is now 14-15 on the season, 8-7 at home and 17-11 with the over. The White Sox have Reynaldo Lopez on the mound tonight. He is 2-3 with a 6.03 ERA.
The White Sox got the win on Thursday thanks to Nicky Delmonico’s three-run blast in walk-off fashion. It was his first long ball of the season. James McCann also hit his third home run of the season. He had two hits and two RBI in the win and is now hitting .365 on the year. Lucas Giolito lasted just five innings in his start, but the Chicago bullpen pitched four innings and allowed just one hit and one run.
MLB Betting Trends
Boston
The Red Sox have lost Sale’s last six starts and they are just 2-5 in their last seven against AL Central opponents.
Chicago
The White Sox have won four straight against a left-handed starter and four of Lopez’ last five home starts.
Prediction:
Neither starter has been great this year, but Sale really should have Boston fans concerned. He has given up multiple runs in all but one start this season and not gotten past the seventh in any start. Given Boston hasn’t been reliable enough to win consistently, and Sale hasn’t been himself at all, I can’t trust riding them as such a big road favorite. Similar to Thursday, I think Chicago has much better value as a big home underdog.
MLB Prediction: Chicago White Sox +175
