Tigers get the upset

Detroit put an end to a 4-game losing streak on Tuesday with a 3-1 win over the Phillies. The Tigers are now 13-14 on the season, 7-9 on the road and 16-11 with the under. Detroit has Daniel Norris taking the mound tonight. He is 1-0 with a 3.93 ERA.

The Tigers put up three runs in the third inning and used its pitching to hold the Phillies to just four hits in the win. Miguel Cabrera got the rally started with a RBI single while Niko Goodrum followed up with a two-run home run. On the mound, Spencer Turnbull got his second win of the season by pitching six innings and allowing just three hits with five strikeouts. Shane Greene continued his amazing start, earning his 12th save of the season by striking out the side in the ninth. He has a 1.29 ERA for the season.

Phillies slip up

Philadelphia had its 3-game win streak come to an end in Tuesday’s interleague loss at home to the Tigers. The Phillies are now 16-13 on the season, 11-6 at home and 15-13 with the under. Aaron Nola gets the start for Philadelphia tonight. He is 2-0 on the season, but has a 5.68 ERA.

The bats went cold for Philadelphia in Tuesday’s loss. Their only run actually came in the first inning on an error by the Tigers while allow Andrew McCutchen to score. Cesar Hernandez was the only hitter to pick up an extra-base hit. Vince Velasquez lasted just 3.2 innings in his start, allowing the three runs on 99 pitches with seven strikeouts. The Philly bullpen did quite well, allowing just one hit over 5.1 innings.

MLB Betting Trends

Detroit

The Tigers are just 1-6 in their last seven interleague games and 3-9 in their last 12 Wednesday games.

Philadelphia

The Phillies are just 1-4 in Nola’s last five starts, but 21-8 in his last 29 starts at home.

Prediction:

Tuesday showed what Philadelphia has been lacking. The Phillies aren’t quite playing as well as some have expected thus far. Their hitting has gone quiet at times while their pitching is also suspect. Tonight, I just feel the Phillies are too strongly favored. They were a -190 favorite last night and even more heavily favored today. That’s surprising given that Nola has given up seven hits or more in his last four starts. He’s been fortunate to not suffer a loss, because the Phillies are 2-4 in his starts this year. Norris has been much more consistent. He is coming off his worst start, but it looks to be an anomaly. I am going to take my chances on Detroit’s strong pitching to get the upset again tonight.

MLB Prediction: Detroit Tigers +185
