Pirates on massive skid

Pittsburgh is riding an 8-game losing streak right now following being swept at home by the Diamondbacks and on the road against the Dodgers. The Pirates are 12-14 overall, 6-7 on the road and 15-11 with the under. Jordan Lyles gets the start for the Pirates tonight. He is 2-1 on the season with a 2.05 ERA.

The Pirates have been one of the worst offenses in the league this season, averaging just 3.23 runs per game while hitting .228 as a team. When it comes to pitching, Pittsburgh is pretty strong. They have a 3.60 ERA with a 1.17 WHIP as a staff. Josh Bell has been leading the team this season with six home runs, 19 RBI and a .280 batting average. Melky Cabrera is hitting .333 for the top average.

Rangers trying to gain steam

Texas is coming off five-straight losses to Oakland and Seattle on the road before taking the last two games of the series against the Mariners by a combined score of 29-2. Texas is now 14-13 on the season, 10-4 at home and 16-10 with the under. The Rangers have Adrian Sampson taking the mound tonight. He is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA.

The Rangers have the top offense in the league right now, averaging 6.00 runs per game while hitting .263 as a team. However, the Rangers also have one of the worst pitching staffs. They rank 29th in staff ERA (5.50) and dead last in team WHIP (1.56). Shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera is questionable to play today due to a calf injury. He has six homers and 17 RBI on the season. Joey Gallo is leading the team with nine home runs and 23 RBI while Elvis Andrus is hitting .365 with five homers and 20 RBI.

MLB Betting Trends

Pittsburgh

The Pirates are 25-8 in their last 33 interleague games and 9-3 in their last 12 interleague road games.

Texas

The Rangers are 1-5 in their last six against a losing team and 1-5 in their last six series openers.

Prediction:

The Rangers have inflated hitting numbers based on their last two games. Their offense isn’t as good as their averages may show. However, their pitching is bad. Pittsburgh isn’t a great offense, but the Pirates do have some good pitching. I think that will make the difference today. Losing streaks don’t go on forever in baseball and I think the Pirates will snap out of their funk today against some bad pitching. I think Lyles can keep the Texas hitters in check to allow the Pirates to sneak out a road win.

MLB Prediction: Pittsburgh Pirates -105
