San Diego Padres Fantasy Spin
Manny Machado went 1-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI on Saturday in the Padres' extra-innings win over the Nationals. Machado drove in his run in an unconventional way, as he was hit with the bases loaded in the 10th to extend the San Diego lead to 4-2. He came around to score on an error by Victor Robles later in that inning. He's hitting .245/.336/.394 with four homers in 26 games.
Washington Nationals Fantasy Spin
Juan Soto went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer on Saturday in an extra-innings loss to the Padres. Soto tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth inning with a homer to right off of Eric Lauer. It's the fifth homer of the season from the 20-year-old, and he's driven in 19 runs. While Soto is only hitting .250, his .378 on-base percentage and .467 slugging percentage are much more indicative of the outfielder's talent.
MLB Betting Trends
San Diego
The Padres have won five straight and are 6-1 in their last seven road games.
Washington
The Nationals have dropped four out of their last five games but are 5-0 in Jeremy Hellickson’s last five home starts.
Prediction:
Pitch count has been an issue for Joey Lucchesi and it’s difficult to sweep a team on the road, but I still like San Diego over Hellickson and Washington today. Hellickson is striking out opponents at just a 11.9% rate this season and his walk rate is up to 11.9%. I’d rather ride a Padres offense that is heating up against a cold pitcher in Hellickson, then simply assume that San Diego can’t go into Washington and win three straight because it’s, “difficult to sweep opponents.”
The Pick: San Diego Padres -110
