Zach Eflin limited the Giants to one run in six innings in a no-decision Wednesday. Eflin didn't miss bats, finishing with just four whiffs and three strikeouts. His velocity was also down some, perhaps because he had to wait out a rain (actually wind) delay in the third. Eflin left with a two-run lead today, but that didn't hold up and he still has a 1-0 record to go along with a 2.77 ERA after four starts. His next start will come in St. Louis.

Carlos Martinez had his best start of the season but was saddled with a tough-luck loss Wednesday, tossing six frames of one-run ball versus the Nationals. Martinez went exactly five innings in each of his first three starts of the season but made it through six in this one and showed his best velocity of the year. More pep on his heater didn't lead to more strikeouts, unfortunately, as Martinez had just three. The lone run charged to the righty easily could've been avoided, but a couple bad throws allowed Josh Bell to score from first on an Alex Avila double. This was an important step forward for Martinez with Johan Oviedo ready for an opportunity and Miles Mikolas (shoulder) on the mend. He'll try to keep it going next week against the Phillies.
Phillies vs. Cardinals Betting Prediction
The Phillies have won six of the last eight meetings between these two teams and are 11-4 in their last 15 games versus National League Central opponents. The Cardinals, meanwhile and are 2-6 against the spread in their last seven games versus National League East rivals.
