Milwaukee Brewers Fantasy Spin
Brandon Woodruff was tagged for five runs on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings Sunday in a no-decision against the Dodgers. Woodruff walked three batters and was tagged for seven hits, including a pair of solo homers by Joc Pederson in the first and fourth innings, respectively. He also struck out three batters and was fortunate to escape with a no-decision after the Brewers mounted a furious late-inning comeback. The 26-year-old righty remains 2-1 with a bloated 5.81 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 32/9 K/BB ratio in five starts. He’s one of the most intriguing starters in the National League because of his prodigious strikeout rate, but he needs to do a better job of keeping the ball in the yard if he’s going to be successful as a starter long term. He’ll look to rebound against the Mets on the road in his next start on Saturday.
New York Mets Fantasy Spin
Noah Syndergaard allowed six runs -- four earned -- on eight hits over five innings in a loss to the Cardinals on Sunday. Syndergaard didn't yield a homer and six of the Cardinals' eight hits against him were singles, but he's still having trouble putting it all together over the course of an outing. He walked two while striking out five in the outing, and offensively, swatted his first homer since he hit three in 2016. The loss dropped him to 1-2 with an unsightly 5.90 ERA and 1.28 WHIP, but advanced metrics, like his 2.92 FIP, suggest he's close to turning a corner. We'll see if that turn comes Saturday against the Brewers.
MLB Betting Trends
Milwaukee
The Brewers have won seven of Woodruff’s last 10 starts and are 5-2 in his last seven outings on the road.
New York
The Mets are 8-2 in Syndergaard’s last 10 home starts.
Prediction:
Regardless of his struggles, this is an awfully good price on the Mets with Syndergaard pitching. Woodruff has not been sharp in his four starts, posting a 5.81 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP. He’s also giving up a lot of hard contact (50.7%) and has been susceptible to left-handed hitters, making this a bad matchup against the left handed-heavy Mets.
The Pick: New York Mets -135
