New York Yankees Fantasy Spin
Yankees' manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday that Giancarlo Stanton is fully recovered from the biceps strain that landed him on the injured list, but that he also required a cortisone shot in his left shoulder. He'll remain in California through the weekend before joining the team in Arizona, where he's expected to ramp up his swinging. It still appears likely, barring any setbacks, that he'll be able to return from the injured list at some point next week.
Los Angeles Angels Fantasy Spin
In addition to facing live hitting on Wednesday, Shohei Ohtani (elbow) also extended his throwing regimen to 100 feet. Ohtani was able to play in a simulated game on Wednesday, but he also was able to make some throws as he recovers from Tommy John surgery. It's unlikely that we see Ohtani play in the outfield -- and we certainly won't see the two-way star on the mound in 2019 -- but it's good to see he's progressing in that area, too. He should be back as a DH sometime in early May, and as a hurler at some point in 2020.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Yankees are 16-5 in Tanaka’s last 21 road starts versus an opponent that owns a losing record.
Los Angeles
The Angels are just 1-4 in Cahill’s last five starts.
Prediction:
These two teams pushed the combined score over the total on Wednesday night and I envision Thursday night’s series finale to mirror last night’s game. Tanaka is a solid pitcher but he has struggled with home runs over his career and Cahill’s HR/9 rate is an unsightly 2.73. Despite a rash of injuries that has left their lineup decimated, the Yankees are still finding ways to put runs up on the board and the Angels’ bats finally came alive last night as well.
