A pair of starters in poor form will meet in the Bronx tonight when the Red Sox and Yankees open a new series at 6:35 p.m. ET. Will Chris Sale and James Paxton’s struggles open the door for bettors to take the over in this matchup?

Boston Red Sox Fantasy Spin
Jackie Bradley (illness) is questionable to return to the lineup Tuesday. Bradley hasn't played since Friday due to the flu, although Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Monday that the outfielder "feels better." Consider him day-to-day.
New York Yankees Fantasy Spin
Yankees placed 1B Greg Bird on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to April 14, with a left plantar fascia tear. Yet another injury for the Yankees to deal with and yet another injury for Bird, who continues to have terrible luck in that area. It's unclear how long he might be sidelined. The 26-year-old was off to a slow start to begin the year (.550 OPS in 10 games) and now the path is clear for Luke Voit at first base. The Yankees have called up Mike Ford to take Bird's spot on the active roster.
MLB Betting Trends
Boston
The Red Sox have beaten the Yankees in four of the last five meetings.
New York
The Yankees have lost five of their last six games overall and are just 1-4 in their last five home games.
Prediction:
Sale has been knocked around in his first three starts of the season and his fastball velocity is down. He doesn’t look comfortable throwing his fastball in leverage situations and his slider hasn’t been effective either. With Sale in poor form and Paxton primarily a fly-ball pitcher, I’m going to roll the dice on the over in what would otherwise be a fantastic matchup for a pitcher’s duel.
The Pick: Red Sox/Yankees OVER 8.5
