San Diego Padres Fantasy Spin
Fernando Tatis Jr. slugged a two-run homer in the seventh inning on Friday, powering the Padres to a 5-3 victory over the Cardinals. The Padres entered the seventh inning in a 2-2 tie, but took the lead on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Franchy Cordero. Tatis then stepped to the dish and smashed an Alex Reyes offering over the wall in left to increase their lead to 5-2. It would prove to be the difference in the ballgame. Tatis also singled, finishing the day 2-for-4. The rookie sensation is slashing .241/.290/.483 with a pair of homers, four RBI and a stolen base through his first eight big league games.
St. Louis Cardinals Fantasy Spin
Paul Goldschmidt smashed his fifth home run of the 2019 campaign on Friday, but it wasn't enough to lead his club to victory over the Padres. His solo shot came off of Padres' reliever Trey Wingenter in the eighth inning, trimming the Cardinals' deficit to 5-3. He finished the afternoon 1-for-3 plus a walk, raising his season slash to .259/.394/.815 to go along with five long balls and nine RBI. After getting off to an absolutely dreadful start to the 2018 season, it's great to see Goldschmidt coming out of the gate strong with the Cardinals in 2019.
MLB Betting Trends
San Diego
Following their victory on Friday afternoon, the Padres are now 5-1 in their last six games versus the Cardinals.
St. Louis
Despite their loss to the Padres yesterday and their recent struggles versus the Friars, the Cardinals are 46-19 in their last 65 home games versus San Diego.
Prediction:
While Jack Flaherty pitched well in a no-decision on Friday, the Cardinals’ starters have struggled. The lone exception is Michael Wacha, who delivered six innings of one-run ball versus Milwaukee in his season debut. The Padres are improved offensively, but they’re not the Brewers and Busch Stadium isn’t hitter-friendly Miller Park either. Wacha has had problems with injuries over the past three seasons but his best month has historically been April. The Cards are off to a sluggish start, but the price is right today given the situation.
The Pick: St. Louis Cardinals -120
