Top American Odds
Can an American march into Royal Troon and claim The British Open Championship this week? Here’s a look at the odds to lead the U.S. charge.
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Dustin Johnson is listed with 3/1 odds to be the top American finisher this week. Other short odds are Jordan Spieth (4/1), Rickie Fowler (11/1) and Phil Mickelson (12/1). The British Open Championship takes place Thursday-Sunday from Royal Troon in Troon, Scotland.
Johnson is No. 2 in the world rankings and coming off back-to-back wins in fields similar to a major championship. Johnson finished second in this event in 2011, but has finished outside the top 10 the last three years. He has placed in the top 10 in five of the last six majors.
Spieth is third in the world rankings. He has two wins in 2016. After winning the Masters and U.S. Open last year, he finished fourth in the British Open. He has finished in the top 5 in five of the last six majors.
Fowler is seventh in the world rankings. He has one win this year. He is seeking his first major championship. After having a stellar 2014 season, where he finished in the top 5 in all four majors, he has failed to crack the top 10 in the last six since, missing three cuts in the process.
Mickelson sits 19th in the world rankings. He is seeking his first win since 2013, which was the 2013 British Open. He has five majors to his credit, but he has finished outside the top 10 in nine of the last 11 majors.
