2012 Greenbrier Classic Predictions
WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, WV (ATS Consultants) - The PGA Tour moves to the Old White Course at West Virginia for the 2012 PGA Greenbrier Classic.
This is a resort that opened in 1914 but underwent a major overhaul from 2002-06. They started hosting a PGA even in 2010. Tiger Woods is in this event and will be the favorite, coming off his third win of the year at the AT&T National near Washington D.C. last week. He won his 74th event last week and the only person with more PGA Tour titles is now Sam Snead.
Two years ago, the course was very different before they changed the layout. Stuart Appleby closed with a 59 to win with a total of 22-under-par. They lengthened the course and a number of holes were altered. Last year’s winning total was just 10-under.
Simpson finished in the top 30 at the Travelers a week after winning the U.S. Open and finished 9th last week at the A&T National. He finished in the top 10 here last year so he knows this course and is aware of the changes they’ve made. Simpson now ranks 5th in the world and has a scoring average of 70.35. 9
No one is playing more consistent golf than Seung-yul Noh. He has shot eight straight sub-70 rounds, leading him to a 12th place finish at the AT&T National last week. The up-and-coming Korean golfer is currently ranked 119th worldwide, and has made the cut in 16 out of 20 events he has played in including three top 10 finishes. This is just Noh’s third season on the PGA tour, but he is clearly on the move.
Who? People were asking that two weeks ago before Leishman won the Travelers. He has shown flashes on this course in the past. He is playing the best golf of his career. He played well for three rounds last week at the tough course at Congressional right after his first PGA Tour victory. Has to be very confident right now.
