FORT WORTH, TX (TheSpread) – The 2011 Crowne Plaza Invitational tees off on Thursday and we have a few selected plays for the golf tournament.
My pick to win the event this weekend is Jason Day. According to oddsmakers from online sportsbook SBGGLOBAL.com, Day has 25/1 odds to win the tournament. Day has finished in the top 10 of his last three tournaments and he finished fourth in this tournament back in 2009, which proves he can do well at this course.
In terms of matchups, I like Matt Kuchar (-145) over Zach Johnson (-105). Johnson has been doing well as of late, placing in the top 12 of his last two tournaments, but prior to that, he was really struggling. Johnson has done well at this tournament as well, winning last year and taking ninth in 2009. Kuchar has been struggling as of late, but he still has placed in the top 15 in five of his last seven events. Kuchar is the top-ranked golfer in the field and the favorite to win the tournament overall.
Another matchup I like is Rickie Fowler (-105) over Bill Haas (-145). Fowler has missed the cut in two of his last four outings, but that is why his odds are so low. Fowler has still finished in the top 20 in five events this year and been in the hunt when he has made the cut. Haas has missed the cut in three of his last six and also has five top 20’s, but he has just one top 20 in his last eight tournaments.
