PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FL (TheSpread) – The first round of the 2011 Players Championship is complete and the news isn’t about who's winning as much as it is about who's not playing.

After shooting a 6-over 42 on his first nine holes, Tiger Woods withdrew from the tournament citing issues with his knee and foot following recent surgery. It was clear Woods was not ready to make such a quick return to golf after surgery a few weeks ago.

Despite Woods’ departure, the field is still pretty competitive and Nick Watney has a one-shot lead after one round on last week’s tour winner, Lucas Glover. Watney shot an 8-under 64 on the day while Glover posted a 65.

Watney is now the favorite to win the tournament with odds of 11/2 according to online sports book Bodog.com, while Ben Crane, Glover, and Martin Kaymer each have 10/1 odds.

Crane shot a 4-under 68 on Thursday and is part of a group of three that is tied for 10^th place. Kaymer is part of a group of five golfers that is at -5 for the tournament after shooting a 67.

The 2011 The Players Championship will be played at TPC at Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. It continues play on Friday and will run through Sunday. Weekend coverage of the event can be found on NBC.
