AUGUSTA, GA (TheSpread) – The first round of the 2012 Masters is in the books and Lee Westwood is putting himself in position to contend for his first major championship.

View Current PGA Golf Betting Odds

Westwood is the lone golfer in the lead following the first round, as he shot a 5-under 67. He holds a one-shot lead over the likes of Louis Oosthuizen and Peter Hanson, who each shot a 68 on Thursday. Tiger Woods ended up shooting an even-par 72 after going bogey-bogey to end his round.

According to oddsmakers, Westwood is the favorite to win the tournament, as he has odds of 7/2 to win. Other short odds to win are Woods (11/2) and Rory McIlroy (11/2).

Westwood posted a 4-under 32 on the front 9 of Thursday’s round and then managed to add two birdies and one bogey on the back 9.

McIlroy shot a 1-under 71 in the first round and he sits in a tie for 14th place. McIlroy led after three rounds of the Masters last year, but ended up in 15th place.

The Masters continues Friday, April 6 and will run through Sunday, March 8 from Augusta National in Augusta, Georgia. For complete odds for each golfer to win the The Masters, see below.
