Tiger to play in the Masters
AUGUSTA, GA (TheSpread) – After weeks of speculation on whether or not Tiger Woods would compete in next week’s Masters, the former champion confirmed on Friday that he will compete.
Woods had stepped away from the game early in the year due to a lingering back issue that left him barely able to complete a round and unable to actually contend in a tournament. He had gone silent for many weeks, but issued a statement Friday confirming he will be in Augusta next week.
“I'm playing in the Masters,” Woods said. “It's obviously very important to me, and I want to be there. I've worked a lot on my game and I'm looking forward to competing. I'm excited to get to Augusta and I appreciate everyone's support.”
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Tiger Woods is currently listed with 30/1 odds to win the Masters next week. Rory McIlroy is the favorite with 11/2 odds while Jordan Spieth has 9/1 odds.
Woods is currently 104th in the world ranking. He has played in just two events this year, missing the cut in the Phoenix Open and then withdrawing in the Farmers Insurance Open. He appeared in just nine events in 2014 and failed to crack the top 20 in any of them. Woods is a 14-time major champion, with his last major coming in 2008. He is a four-time Masters champion, but his last victory came in 2005.
