According to the latest oddsmakers, Anthony Davis is the favorite to win the MVP honor, as he is listed with 5/2 odds. Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James each come in with 9/2 odds. Here’s three players we like to be among the top MVP candidates.
16101 LeBron James 9/2
The NBA All-Star Game MVP award is now being named to honor Kobe Bryant and I think James has a new perspective on the season and tonight’s game. The captain of his own team will want to play to honor Kobe, so I expect him to bring his best out tonight. Already a three-time MVP of the All-Star Game, we know LeBron can take over the game when he wants to. Given the competitive nature of the new format, you won’t find many more players more competitive than LeBron.
16104 Luka Doncic 10/1
Doncic is part of team LeBron and getting his first All-Star Game start. I think he is looking to come into tonight’s game and put on a show. Doncic can do it all, score, pass and defend. He is quickly emerging as a must-see player in the NBA and tonight is a chance for him to showcase all of his skills. As a ball-handler, he is likely to touch the ball as much as anyone tonight, which gives him a chance to put up big numbers. I could see a potential triple-double for the young star, which would put him right at the top of the MVP discussion.
16120 Donovan Mitchell 33/1
Like Doncic, Mitchell has emerged as one of the top young stars in the NBA and tonight could be a night for him to really shine. As part of Team Giannis, someone is going to have to step up for them to compete with Team LeBron. The team is a little too center-heavy, so I expect a young guard to have to get hot. Mitchell can be that guy. He’s s scorer, a defender and he has the explosive dunking ability that always helps draw attention in an All-Star Game. With 33/1 odds, I really like Mitchell’s value tonight if he is given enough time to make an impact.
